Temperature

Country : Malawi

Figure 1. Average annual temperature recorded during the historical baseline years (1991-2020).
Figure 2. Average annual temperature projections in Malawi for both SSP2-4.5 (yellow) and SSP5-8.5 (pink). The dashed lines are the linear trends of the ensemble means for SSP member.
Malawi has experienced a consistent rise in its annual mean temperature, a trend which continues to this day. Projections indicate that this warming will become even more pronounced by the end of the 21st century. The table below summarises the future annual temperatures by the 2080s, based on two Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs): SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5.

Note: Tables represent ensemble means from climate model projections. Actual values vary across models, and results should be interpreted as approximate rather than exact.
Current average annual temperature (1981-2010):   23°C
Business as usual (SSP2-4.5)Average annual temperature is projected to reach:
23 °C by 2040
24 °C by 2060
24 °C by 2080
Tech- and fossil-fuelled boom (SSP5-8.5)Average annual temperature is projected to reach:
23 °C by 2040
24 °C by 2060
25 °C by 2080
